B O O K R E L A T E D S I T E S O F T H E M O N T H Book: The Magazine for the Reading Life® According to their site description, "If books are important in your life, BOOK is the magazine for you. Book magazine aims to go beyond book reviews to cover the whole world of books, from all angles." Book magazine describes itself as covering "authors at home and at work; publishing news, trends and issues; great bookstores; exciting literary locations; and technological developments affecting books. You'll find excerpts, essays and fiction by leading writers and new voices." The site also promises more than 50 [book reviews] in every issue! The print edition of BOOK magazine is published bimonthly. It was first published in October 1998 and was named one of the 10 best new magazines of 1998 by Library Journal. Founders were Mark J. Gleason and Jerome V. Kramer. Book Reporter
.com This is an AOL based site which promises a wide ranging book
related site with articles, book reviews, interviews with authors,
The Executive producer, Carol Fitzgerald says "I am enormously proud of the network of sites we
have launched that includes four sites on AOL --- The Book Report, Kids Reads, The Book Bag and Bookworm --- and our three web properties:
www.bookreporter.com, www.teenreads.com
and www.kidsreads.com. I would love to hear what you enjoy about The Book Report Network, and what you would like to see more of. Feel free to drop me a note anytime. I appreciate the feedback BY THE WAY: You can order books and more directly from us (specific out of print, limited editions, and trade books, etc. published by us) securely at our on-line store Parnassus on the Net . Deadly Sins page where a number of links to collecting resources are to be found.
The Internet
Book Information Center (IBIC) This site, cited by Publishers Weekly as "The
granddaddy of book-related sites on the Internet" was established in 1994 and
styles itself as "A personal, selective, opinionated guide to books and to
book-related resources on the Internet." The site includes book reviews, news about
the book world on and off the Internet, a "Commonplace Book," with interesting
passages from selected publications, letters, and more. There is a topic indexed IBIC
Archive of articles that adds substantially to the usefulness of the site. In addition
there is the IBIC Guide to Book-Related Resources on the Internet (AKA The World-Wide
Web Virtual Library: Literature) offering many links to book related sites. These links
are embedded in an interesting essay on the genesis and travels of books from author to
reader. The Internet Classics
Archive If you aren't lucky enough to have Tony Curtis teach your children (and
you) the classics, they're still all available on the net at the Internet Classics Archive. These are
not classics as in "the state room scene" in A Night at the Opera, or
even Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. These are classics as in Homer's Iliad
and Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid, and Agamemnon by Aeschylus. To show you
how immensely hip this page is, the above titles are referred to as popular
classical literature. This is a site with its cultural head squarely on its shoulders.
This site has a searchable collection of approximately 400 classical Greek & Roman
texts (in English translation) and a list of other classics and electronic text sources
which is worth checking out in its own right!. Pulpless.com This site
offers on-line, downloadable books by such authors as Piers Anthony, Victor
Koman, J. Neil Schuman, and an interview with Robert A. Heinlein. Selections tend toward science-fiction
and alternate history and often explore libertarian social/political/economic perspectives. On-Line
Book Page This site offers a directory of over 15,000 books available at no
charge" for reading and/or downloading on the Internet, plus "pointers to
significant directories and archives of on-line texts, Special Exhibits, and more..." The
Complete Works of William Shakespeare Speaking of classics and Shakespeare. Here
is all the Shakespeare that's fit to print, and then some. . . check out Pericles,
Prince of Tyre and Timon of Athens. But, your love's labors won't be lost if
they, or you, check out this site. Other pages on this site for those of a bookish bent: Literary Page, Science Fiction Page, Mystery Page, Cook Books (on
the Food and Libations Page), links to many on-line journals and magazines on our Magazine page, and interesting special interest, weirdness, and
oddities on the Miscellany Page. Check Out Writers Users Group® Recommended
