COOKBOOKS

Fearless Cookery or Whatever Else You Want to Call it Cook Book (also known as the Anti-Health Cook Book or The Blow Health Out Your Fundament (censorial sic) Cookbook) We cannot improve on their web site description:

"In the late 1970's, an alarming trend began to sweep across America. As people began to adopt a new "healthier" lifestyle, they found themselves willing to acquire the dietary habits of rodents and to compromise ingredients in some of the most sumptuous recipes in the world.

"Suddenly supermarkets became inundated with items boasting of their "fat free" or "lite" status. Suddenly, everyone became convinced that if they didn't cut out the fat and the cholesterol,
they would die of a heart attack at the age of 32. People forgot that eating, beyond being necessary for survival, could also be an extremely pleasurable activity.

"Luckily, the nation has not yet managed to suppress the institution of independent thought entirely. A strong brave few continue to use heavy cream, butter, rendered fat, salt, sugar, and whole milk. These rebellious gourmets have pursued those recipes which represent the essence of "real" cooking. They have scoured antique shops, garage sales, and libraries to find the precious volumes which contained recipes unadulterated by the censorship of the health mongers.

"These are the culinary supermen, the Machiavellian chefs who realize that the health trend must be reversed before it's too late. They are Generation X renaissance men who know that the health risks averted by such "healthy" habits are not worth the price which is paid for them; that the doctrine of immediate satisfaction must prevail. They are the unsung heroes of our time who tenaciously preserve traditional cuisine until freedom has (real sic) conquered and all can indulge themselves once more. . ." ". . . "Live Fat, Die Young, and Blow Health Out Your Fundament !!!(censorial sic again, but you get the drift.)" Great recipes in a tongue-in-cheek and cheeky presentation.

The Cooks Thesaurus This page contains thousands of suggested substitutions for cooking ingredients, including low-calorie and low-fat alternatives for dieters, inexpensive substitutes for gourmets on a budget, and innovative replacements for hard-to-find ethnic ingredients.

A - Apples. Chop or slice either Calimyrna or the Mission variety of California figs and stuff into cored Rome Beauty apples to bake. No need to add any sugar. Top baked apples with vanilla yogurt.
